Important Note re: ValueCapper 2.2.4.1266

Post by Craig Micallef » Fri Feb 07, 2025 7:51 am

Hi Everyone,

A new version of ValueCapper, 2.2.4.1266, has been released. However, if you are running version 2.2.3 (as most of you are), you will NOT see it when checking for updates.

Unfortunately, a bug was introduced in 2.2.3 which crops up if the automatic update checker finds an update. A handful of you saw this issue the other day, so I immediately turned off the update.

This issue is fixed in 2.2.4, but in order to install it you will need to perform a manual download and install, as described on our website.

This update introduces the Video Sharing feature described here. So, if you would like to participate, you'll need to follow the linked instructions above and install the update. On the other hand, if you'd like to wait before updating, there's no harm in that either.

As always, if you have any questions, just ask below!

Hi Craig -
I have .1246
Should I upgrade to make things consistent?
Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes, please. Build 1266 has an additional fix for auto-update. Otherwise, even your build won't see new updates when they arrive.

Hey Craig, Is this in Blam or just VC?

This affects ValueCapper only. BLAM updates will continue to show up automatically when they're available.

I keep catching this prompt. I've tried using the desktop shortcut, and I've tried without it. VC has been closed during this process.

Hi Swanson,

It looks like ValueCapper is either still open or Windows is keeping alive and not allowing it to shutdown. My suggestion would be to reboot your computer, then try running the installer you downloaded again. Hopefully that should do it.

Hi Craig -
Yes, I've run into that too.
I used to have to use Task Manager to shut down VC so that I could update.
Restart is a lot easier :)
Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up, Tom. If more than one user sees the same thing, there's likely a bug somewhere :( .
The ValueCapper codebase has grown in complexity over the years and may be in need of a "spring cleaning" to eliminate issues such as this.
